About Edward de Chazal

 

Edward has always taken a very active interest in languages, in particular the English language. He graduated in English and Classics from the University of London in 1987, winning the Ruth Owen travelling scholarship in the same year which enabled him to travel to Turkey for one month. He also started teaching English as a Foreign Language in 1987, working first in Izmir, Turkey, and then specializing mainly in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in several other countries.

    Edward de Chazal - a brief CV

 

Edward has a BA (Hons.) in English and Classics from the University of London, a University of Cambridge Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults, a Certificate in the Advanced Study of Education in English for Specific Purposes from the University of Liverpool, an MA in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language from the University of Wales, and a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Theatre Practice (Performance strand) from the Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London).

 

He has taught in language schools in Bournemouth, Izmir and London. In the 1990s he coordinated EAP programmes at Bilkent University in Ankara, after which he set up the military academic English programme for officers at the Joint Command and Staff College in Kuwait.

 

From 2002 – 2011 he was a College Teaching Fellow at University College London (UCL), University of London, where he also coordinated a number of EAP courses including the Diploma in EAP and Course Unit in Academic Writing.

 

Since 2008 Edward has been visiting lecturer in EAP at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. Recently he has also taught academic literacy and critical thinking at the Oxford University Department for Continuing Education. 

 

Edward de Chazal currently works as an independent consultant, teacher, trainer, and examiner for Trinity College London. He is the lead author for the new multi-level Oxford EAP course, published by Oxford University Press, as well as Business English titles for Macmillan. He founded Jurassic Academic in 2015.
